Missha recently released a copy-cat version of the infamous SK-II Facial Treatment Essence. It has sparked a huge debate among Asian skincare fans, so Hope In A Blog did their research on these two identical products.

 

 

There’s no debate here on the price – Missha wins hands down! Priced at only 42,000 wons – and for the same amount ( 150ml ), SK-II Facial Treatment Essence is 4 times more expensive!

 

 

Judging from the ingredient list too – Missha Time Revolution Treatment Essence has a LOT more beneficial ingredients from Niacinamide, Licorice Root Extract, Centella Asiatica Extract, Hyaluronic Acid,  Adenosine and etc compared to the SK-II Facial Treatment Essence which focuses on the Fermentation Extract and no other beneficial ingredients.

 

 

The main difference between both is the ferment filtrate. SK-II uses 90% of their infamous Saccharomycopsis Ferment Filtrate, a type of yeast produced during the fermentation of sake. P&G scientists claim that a special filtering process makes Pitera an extra-special yeast by-product but has not published many research to back this up. Missha uses 80% of Saccharomyces Ferment Filtrate, which is the yeast used to brew beer. It is also interesting that Pitera ( the main ingredient in SK-II Facial Treatment Essence ) is from the same family as Saccharomycescerevisiae , the yeast used in beer and also in Missha The First Treatment Essence. Since they are from the same family, would they have the same effect? Or is the SK-II Saccharomycopsis just a marketing ploy by P&G?

 

 

Either way, Missha Time Revolution Treatment Essence is worth the try just for it’s price and the number of beneficial ingredients included in the essence. If it works, SK-II will have a big problem, and i mean, BIG.

Woongjin Coway’s brand new foray into the Chinese medicine based skincare, Allvit, has been nominated in a prestigious International design award : the Red Dot Awards.

Woongjin Coway releases oriental medicine brand after Re:Nk : Allvit

After the success of Re:NK, Woongjinjin Coway will be releasing their 2nd brand in hopes of getting a share of the over-saturated and popular traditional Chinese medicine cosmetics market called ‘Allvit올빚. The brand name has a meaning of a right-minded product, and was created by the philosophy of reviewing the old and learning the new. Allvit 올빚 will be their first venture into the oriental cosmetics market, and the brand can even be used by ladies in their 20s. The container design is the figuration of dewdrops on the lotus leaves. It won the Best of the Best prize at the Reddot Design Award 2011 for the first time in the domestic cosmetics industry. This prize was granted to just 1.2% of a total of 6,468 entries.
The calligraphy brand logo was created by Sa-Ik Jang, a well-known artist, who is striving to popularize Korean classical music through combining it with modern music. And Chae-Won Moon who is giving off elegant charm through a historical drama on TV was selected as the main model of the Allvit. Her image is expected to go well with the brand image of the Allvit and further appeal to women in their twenties and thirties.

 

 

Leapfrogging into Korea’s leading oriental cosmetics brand and entering overseas markets in 2013

The oriental cosmetics market volume was estimated to reach KRW2 trillion in 2010, representing approximately 25% of total cosmetics market in Korea. Seolhwasoo of Amore Pacific and Whoo of LG Household & Healthcare generated KRW1.2 trillion through door-to-door sales in othe same period. Woongjin Coway plans to make the Allvit leapfrog into Korea’s leading oriental cosmetics brand by expanding the product lineups to more than 50 items until 2013, and enter overseas markets

Since the launch of Re:NK brand in September 2010, Woongjin Coway made the top 5 in terms of quarterly sales in less than a year. Sales in the domestic cosmetics business reached KRW35.3 billion in 1H, achieving 59% of KRW60 billion, the company’s yearly target. Number of sales organizations and salespersons expanded to 339 and 3,391. These figures marked 121% and 113% of yearly targets, respectively. The domestic cosmetics business is expected to boost in the second half of the year, as the company plans to proactively expand sales channels into department stores and duty free shops.

Naruko releases new line–Lupin Anti Wrinkle Firming Range

Naruko has released a new line called the Naruko Lupin Anti Wrinkle Firming line.

 

 

The packaging does seem very similar to the SK-II Cellumination line doesn’t it? The star here is of course white lupin which is said to boost the skin’s natural reconstruction processes, slow down the destruction of support tissues and repair and protect the skin.

 

 

Lupin is an ornamental flower but it has been cultivated for over 3,000 years for its nutritional value in the Nile valley and in Latin America. It is currently used in the food industry as an alternative to soya, being used in vegan sausages and tofu. Lupin seed extract is proven to boost skin own collagen production as a vegetarian and natural alternative to collagen and hyaluronic acid injections without the side effects.

 

 

A new study from France’s Silab examines the use of a white sweet lupine extract in skin care formulations.
