The Saem releases their first hebal line April 6, 2011

Hankook’s mid-range brand – The Saem – which is known for being endorsed by superstar Lee Seung Gi and also for it’s Gem Miracle line will be releasing their first ever herbal line called – get ready for this it’s pretty long – Aleumdaun Saem, Yeon Myeong Hyeon Lain line – in short the Yeon Myeong line.

The feature of this line is the 110- year old wild ginseng root and it will be a herbal functional whitening line. Highly rich in Ginseng saponins, the line ensures moisture and prevents aging as well as whitening. In addition, 100% purified water is used.

Suitable for those aged above their 20s.

The Saem hasn’t been available in Gmarket yet, but here’s the Korean name for it in case you’re in Seoul and looking for this line in The Saem’s boutique. 더샘 ( The Saem)  ‘아름다운 샘, 연 명현라인’

As The Saem is a mid-range brand like Etude House, Tony Moly etc – the prices are priced right – but we wonder how concentrated can the 110 year old ginseng root be when it’s sold at a relatively cheap price compared to Whoo and Sulwhasoo.

The line compromises of 4 products namely

1) Hyun Toner 150 ml – 22,000 wons

2) Hyun Emulsion 140ml – 22,000 wons

3) Hyun Serum 50ml – 28,000 wons

4) Hyun Whitening Cream 50ml – 30,000 wons

    Can’t wait to try! 🙂
Their gem miracle diamond serum is very very good.

I got the whole set of the Hyun line (cleanser, toner, serum, cream) but meant more for hydration than whitening (the packaging is brown for that line) and actually it appears the selling pitch of 110 year old wild ginseng root extract is similar to Sansim(which was the original selling line by Hankook the parent company and manufacturer). Using this as a selling pitch for mass market cosmetics, no matter how cheap , is pretty smart because the idea of aged wild ginseng of more than 110 years is seemingly exotic.

I think that the Saem won’t be sold in Singapore in retail stores, because Lee Seung Gi is not famous here. The Saem can be seen being sold on online websites here though, so I assume that there is a demand for it.

Actually, I think the Bubble Mask is similar to Ossion’s Bubble Detox Mask(both have temporary brightening functions) and also the Diamond 10C V Lifting Serum too. The particles inside reflect light and give a feeling of radiance. That is temporary more than permanent.

The Korean title is technically more like a way of describing the functions of that particular line. In most cases, I think Yeon Myeong line is best to describe it directly. In English translation, the whole line means “Beautiful Saem, Face Brightening Hyeon (the word Hyeon means a lot of different things in Sino-Korean and in this case, if I read it correctly, means ‘Profoundity’) Line”

  6. Kev Says:

I realize that the packaging of most brightening/whitening products in Korean cosmetics, especially those of Oriental herbal formulations, tend to have very similar packaging. That is, a white or light bluish tint to the surface to give the association with brightening, metallic looking caps and tops to close off the bottles, and also, a few Chinese or Sino-Korean characters to give that impression of an antiquated but luxurious formula. Even Coreana’s Bichui GaIn has a whitening line, Baek Yoon, which looks very similar.
