Hada Labo Super Hyaluronic Acid Moist Essence EX review and hada labo super hyaluronic acid moisturizing lotion review

        hada labo

        Introduction

        About the company :

HadaLabo is mutually developed by Rohto Pharmaceutical Co. Ltd (Japan) and Mentholatum (USA). The brand concept is “Perfect & Simple”: your skin benefits from the high-quality ingredients and easy to follow skincare routine.

“Gokujyun” (Super Hydration), “Shirojyun” (Whitening) and “Tamagohada” (Cleansing and Purification) are the brand’s most popular series products.

Hyaluronic Acid helps improve the moisture retention of skin. For 1g of Hyaluronic Acid, it could hold 6L of liquid. HadaLabo Gokujyun skincare products contain Super Hyaluronic Acid (which has double moisture retention power than regular hyaluronic acid). With sufficient Hyaluronic Acid, your skin looks moistened, soft and supple.

With high degree of pure whitening factor “Arbutin” and vitamin C derivatives, Shirojyun skincare products give you the optimal result of whitening and balanced skin tone.

Formulated with keratin softening agents AHA and BHA, Tamagohada series of products effectively remove blackheads and impurities inside pores, leaving your skin pure and smooth.

HadaLabo was launched in 2004. Its effectiveness and great variety of choices have earned popular support within a short period of time. For example, Gokujyun Super Hyaluronic Acid Lotion was chosen as the best product in “2008 Yahoo! BEAUTY Best Cosme Award” (Skincare Division).

HadaLabo skincare products are fragrance free, colorant free, mineral oil free and alcohol (ethanol) free. Suitable for sensitive skin use.

        Packaging

        5

It doesn’t come with a box, just a simple plastic bottle. Make sure your palms are clean when you are pouring the product out or it might contaminate your lotion.

        56

This doesn’t come in a box either. Just a cardboard and plastic cover over it. Packaging in form of a pump bottle. You need about 1-2(if dry skin) pumps each time. However, when we bought this, there was a factory default. The pump was not attached to the bottle, but Hadalabo DHLed an entire new bottle from KL all the way to Paris. Great customer service!

        Texture

I’m not surprised when i read that 1 bottle of this lotion is sold every 4 seconds. It simply has a winner written all over it because of it’s texture, moisturizing properties and price.

The lotion or what we would also call a toner, is slightly thicker than water, kind of like goo-ey water. It doesn’t absorbed when applied directly , you would have to pat it around your face until it gets absorbed. Some of you may not be a fan of the gooey texture but we loved it. It felt very comfortable and hydrating on the skin. The texture here is a winner ! It isn’t very sticky, you will have to wait a while for the slight stickiness to go away.

This is the how the quantity of 2 pumps is. Usually one is enough unless you have dry skin :

Essence is very sticky and gooey and thick  :

Now, the texture of the essence : we are not so much of a fan. It is rather sticky and hard to absorb and leaves the skin sticky and feels a little too heavy. You will need to wait for a longer time for the stickiness to go away. ( Apparently the JuJu Aquamoist’s Super Hyaluronic Acid Essence is less sticky than this ) .

        Ingredients

The ingredient list is simple and short.

Free of fragrances, mineral oil, alcohol & colorant. It is packed with chemicals such as butylene glycol, PPG-10 Methyl GLucose Ether, etc.

Their star ingredient which is Hyaluronic Acid, or Sodium Hyaluronate is only number 6 on the list.

There is also another Hyaluronate on the bottom of the list

        1. Sodium Acetyl Hyaluronate

Shiseido developed sodium acetyl hyaluronate (AcHA), through partial substitution of hydroxyl groups of sodium hyaluronate (HA) by acetyl groups. The treatment let the sodium hyaluronate possess hydrophobicity in addition to the original hydrophilic nature. The new compound showed remarkably increased affinity to the skin surface and water holding capacity(“anchoring humectant”). The high water holding capacity and corneum softening effect brought by the “anchoring” effect are the advantages of sodium acetyl hyaluronate.

        2. Hydroxyethyl cellulose

This is the product that causes the gellified texture of the lotion. Hydroxyethyl cellulose is a gelling and thickening agent derived from cellulose

Ingredients: Water, Glycerin, Butylene Glycol, 1,2-Pentylene Glycol, PPG-10 Methyl Glucose Ether, Caprylic/Caprilic Triglyceride, Hydroxyethyl Acrylate / Sodium  Acryloydimethyl Taurate Copolymer / Squalane / Polysorbate 60, Sodium Hyaluronate, Limnanthes Alba( Meadowfoam ) Seed Oil, Methylparaben, Disodium EDTA, Disodium Succinate, Sodium Acetylated Hyaluronate.

        Conclusion

It’s no mystery why Hada Labo has gained so much success worldwide – while it’s ingredient list are simple and rather very normal – which is why the price of the products are low – they perform the most basic task of every skincare item does – which is hydrating.

It is also suitable for all skin types. The lotion really does give a hydration booster to your face and we’ve used it whenever we need some extra hydration boost. It also combines well with any other products. You can even refrigerate it prior to using it, so that the cold shrink your pores when you apply it on your face.

The essence, we are not really a fan of it. It is sticky and feels rather gooey and heavy on the face and needs to take a long time to adjust to the skin.

Combination of both really does make your skin smooth and hydrated.

If you’re looking for a cheap, and a most basic skincare set, you can give this brand a try.

However those with oily skin, skip the essence.

        Introducing Brands : Amore Pacific’s Hannule / Hanyul February 21, 2011

Even though Amore Pacific has been a pain in the ass, we’ve been flooded with e-mails regarding questions about the line. So we are going to do a short introduction on the Hannule / Hanyul brand for those of you who are looking for information as there is no english information regarding this brand at all.

Hannule or Hanyul is a brand under the Amore Pacific Group and is touted as the Sulwhasoo for younger skin. The brand targets women at their early 20s to late 30s.

There are 4 distinct lines in Hannule which are encoded by their distinctive colour, namely the Red, Purple, Blue, White and Green.

Kudos goes to Kevin Jang ( which we are trying to get him to feature some articles on this blog ) for most of the information regarding this line.

        1) Red Line – Hannule Keuk Jin line

        h2

This line is a premium care line and is probably the most expensive line in Hannule. It is a skin renewal line, anti wrinkle, anti aging, firming and elasticity line.

The TV-ad for the Keuk Jin line shows that the line can firm the skin for the V-line silhouette of the face.

Not forgetting, the Hannule Keuk Jin Essence was the no.2 best selling product of the Amore Pacific in 2010 ( just behind IOPE’s Super Vital Extra Moist Cream). Not to mention that it even achieved higher sales than the much cheaper Amore Pacific brand ‘Mamonde’ which was 4th rank.

You can watch the TV ad for the KeukJin Essence right here :

Sulwhasoo Liquid Cleansing Foam Review VS. History Of Whoo Foam Cleanser Review

        whoo

        Introduction

        • Sulwhasoo Liquid Cleansing Foam

A cleansing foam leaving skin hydrated and looking radiant.

Formulated with clarifying Korean Medicinal Herbs, this cleansing foam removes skin impurities and leaves skin hydrated and looking radiant.

        – Japanese Apricot hydrates while Dokudami soothes for soft, hydrated radiantly clean skin.

        – Rich, luxurious, non-stripping lathers effectively remove pore-clogging impurities without irritating the skin.

        • History Of Whoo Foam Cleanser

Gentle foaming cleanser contains natural herbal ingredients to create a rich, fine-textured lather. This replenishing cleanser gently removes facial grime, impurities and make up residue. Its highly concentrated and super moisturizing formula keeps the skin moist and supple and helps prevent dryness.

[Gongjinhyang – A secret Royal court formula that presents heavenly skincare to empresses]

Containing “Gonjinbidan” and “Wild ginseng Cordyceps sinensis”. Gongjinhyang helps create a more attractive skin tone. Through the principle of yin-yang harmony to keep skin balanced and the principle of increasing water and diminishing fire to enhance moisture within the skin while soothing it effectively, it gives skin a new radiance and smoothness.

        • Sulwhasoo Liquid Cleansing Foam

Both packaging are very distinctively different. Sulwhasoo comes in a bottle and pump form and contains 200ml of the cleanser. You would need about 2-3 pumps each time.

        • History Of Whoo Foam Cleanser

Whoo’s cleanser comes in a tube form and contains 180ml in comparison to Sulwhasoo. However, while the Sulwhasoo cleanser contains 20ml more, you would need about 2-3 pumps each time. With Whoo, you would only need about two pea size of product each time.

        Texture

        w1

Sulwhasoo’s cleanser is transparent ( slight yellowish teint ) gel while Whoo’s foam cleanser is a yellow white paste which has a pearly color to it.

The whoo foam paste is rather thick in texture, while Sulwhasoo’s has a serum like texture to it. However, compared to the Elisha Coy BB Cleanser which they both have similarities in texture, Elisha Coy’s BB Cleanser is more liquidy and spreads more easily on the face while the Sulwhasoo’s foam cleanser is thicker.

Sulwhasoo’s lather ( i wouldn’t use the word foam because the foaming is very light  and not very noticeable ) is light on the skin while Whoo’s lather is thick and rich in texture.

        Foaming Power

        w2

        w3

Whoo’s foaming power is definitely more superior than Sulwhasoo. Both do not actually ‘foam’ that much but both creates this thick white lather ( Whoo’s lather is thicker and more apparent as seen in the photos ). Sulwhasoo’s whitish lather does disappear after a while that is why it isn’t very noticeable in the 2nd photo, while Whoo’s lather remains dense and thick.

        w6

        w7

Whoo’s cleansing power is also superior to Sulwhasoo. The photo explains it all !

        Post – Cleaning Feeling

Both cleansers give very different post-cleaning feel to the face.

Sulwhasoo gives a more moist  and normal feeling after cleaning but the Whoo cleanser gives a very SQUEAKY clean feeling after cleaning. In fact, we usually hate this squeaky clean feeling which comes with a ‘pulling’ and dry feeling on the face. However with the Whoo cleanser, even though it gives a VERY squeaky clean feeling, it doesn’t ‘pull’ the skin and the skin doesn’t feel dry. You can really feel that your skin is very clean.

However, we were rather divided when it came to this. Half of us did not like that squeaky feeling because probably we were used to cream based cleansers and the other half loved the squeaky clean , yet non-drying after-feel it gives.

It really depends on your preference for this one. Unlike the Hada Labo cleanser which also gave the same sort of feeling like the Whoo cleanser, it left the face dry and tight. However with Whoo, it doesn’t give the dry , tight and pulling feel on your skin.

It is the first time we came across a cleanser which gives such a squeaky clean feeling yet not drying, and you can even hear the squeak if you glide your hands along your face after cleaning. This probably explains why the cleansing power of Whoo is more superior to Sulwhasoo.

Apparently, the cleansers of LG ( Whoo, OHUI ) all gives the same super squeaky clean feeling.

        Conclusion

We made a mini table to sum things up, and the winner of each section will be marked with a heart!

        Sulwhasoo History Of Whoo
        Packaging Red heart
        Texture Red heart
        Foaming Power Red heart
        Cleansing Power Red heart
        Post-cleaning feel Red heart
        Scent Red heart
Price / Value for money Red heart
        • Packaging

We chose Sulwhasoo over Whoo because pumps are more hygenic than tubes and also convenient. All you have to do is pump and you can get started.

        • Texture

We preferred Whoo’s texture because it was more rich compared to Sulwhasoo’s gel like texture which was light

        • Foaming Power

Whoo’s foaming power was more powerful and created more lather compared to Sulwhasoo

        • Cleansing Power

Cleansing power of Whoo was also superior and you can feel that it cleans much better by the super squeaky feeling it gives after

        • Post Cleaning Feel

This was a half-half situation but Sulwhasoo won by 1 vote! However, both cleansers do not leave the skin dry and tight.

        • Scent

We also chose Sulwhasoo’s scent because it was more natural and had a very strong herbal smell which everyone here loves. It smells like the Sulwhasoo First Aid Serum.

The Whoo cleanser has the typical scent of the Gongjinhyang basic line which can be very artificial and empowering. However, the scent is also very pleasant but can be a little too much at times.

        • Value For Money

Sulwhasoo won because it is slightly cheaper. Sulwhasoo costs around 26 – 36 USD for 200ml, while Whoo’s cleanser cost about 49 USD for 180ml !

This will be a general feel for our future Sulwhasoo – Whoo – Hannule – Sooryehan reviews, so leave some feedback of this review format , so we can change it on our next review !
